- BRICs: what letter to choose? - You probably already heard about the 'BRICs'. This acronym stands for four emerging countries: Brazil, Russia, India and China. It was invented in 2001 by Jim O'Neill, an economist at the famous investment bank Goldman Sachs, who described these countries as the ones who should become the most dominant economies in the world by the year 2050.
